When Classes Start, what do I do?

  • You will have a Catechist binder to help you plan your RE Year and organize your classes.
  • The Binders are placed outside the RE Office during class times
  • Any notes to you or updates to your binder will be added periodically.
  • Please pick up your binder before class and return it after class.
  • Take attendance at the start of each class, marking present, absent, and excused students on the attendance sheet for the day.
  • You may copy any of the material in your binder to take with you.
  • However, please do not take the Catechist Binders home with you.

Diocesan Website

The Diocese has a wealth of information on its website. For Religious Education, there is an entire section listed under Education. Two important ones for Catechists are below:
Bishops Letter. Here the Bishop puts for the theme for each Catechetical Year. This may help you focus your lesson plans or your own preparations for your class.
RE Guidelines.  These represent cumulative knowledge in the ideal situation with a parish school. However, you can use these resource to give you a sense of where your class might be or what more it can be. Click on Elementary for Grades 7-8. This is a LONG PDF, so please note that Grade 7 is pages 32-35. Grade 8 is pages 36-43. Confirmation is pages 44-48 and a List of Prayers is pages 49-52. There is a separate PDF file for High School.
