Simbang Gabi Celebration Tonight

12/19/2012

Our annual participation in Simbang Gabi, a nine-day series of Masses celebrated by Filipinos as a prelude to the Christmas Season, is this evening, Wednesday, December 19th.

Mass begins at 7:30 pm with pastor Rev. C. Donald Howard, S.A. and concelebrant Rec. Patrick Cogan, S.A. The Mass is primarily in English with some Filipino music. Following the mass there will be a reception in Atonement Hall featuring Filipino food. The public is invited and asked to bring a holiday dish to share.

Below is a scriptural reflection for the readings at this Mass. Hope to see you there.

What was your daughter wearing? I noticed a grown woman wearing an outfit exactly like hers too.

The dress she wore is a Filipino dress with traditional "butterfly sleeves". These always looked more like the "10 Commandments" to me. Her friend had a more formal outfit that had butterfly sleeves and was white/off-white. Those outfits are made from pineapple leaf strands.
The outfit Hannah was wearing also had a head handkerchief. As far as I know, it's more of a "country-folk" outfit than a formal outfit. Both of those outfits belong to the girl that Hannah walked down the aisle with for the offertory. In fact, she wore the dress last year, but outgrew it.
Thanks for the question. Hope you enjoyed the celebration.
